Danny had done a perfectly normal, reasonable thing for a coworker and friend and purchased that new X-Box thing for Steve's Christmas gift. And now he was being dragged into playing a game with him.

It wasn't going terrible well for him.

"I don't understand the controller," he grumbled. "Arcade games were better, you know."

That was loser talk there.

"After I kick your ass here, I can kick your ass at PAC-MAN," Steve offered. "Old man."

"Still got you beat in Candy Crush," Danny grumbled back.

"That's like talking about how awesome you are at Farmville," Steve said mockingly.

"I regret getting this thing for you." He truly did.

Steve laughed, nudging his shoulder into Danny's. "How'd you envision this going against a guy with a lot of downtime, crazy competitive team members, and reflexes honed by your tax dollars?"

"I don't know? Fun maybe?" He just completely forgot how hyper-competitive Steve was.

"This is fun!" Steve protested.

For him, at least. Hyper-competitive asshole that he was.

"This is not fun," Danny countered. "Fun would be getting me a beer and paying for the pizza."

Steve sighed over-dramatically. "Fine, but I know where I am in the game, so no cheating," he said, putting down his controller and getting up to get beers just as the doorbell rang.

"Of course!" Danny called after him, immediately grabbing Steve's controller to walk his little avatar off a cliff.

Steve really should've expected that.

He rested the pizzas against his cast and brought them in to dump onto the coffee table like the bachelors they were, then went back for the beers, holding one between his teeth. (That had nothing to do with the broken arm, just Steve being an idiot.)

"What happened to my guy?!"

"Think you set your controller down funny," Danny said, breaking into the pizza immediately

Steve made a face at him. "Yeah, okay."

Danny's innocent face was about as good as Steve's was. Or maybe it was just that both of them knew each other too well for it to work.

"Cheater," Steve huffed, sitting down on the sofa and trying to distract Danny as he did so.

Danny rolled his eyes and made sure the pizza was in a location that would be easier for Steve to grab with his arm still messed up. Which turned into trying to elbow Steve for being a little shit. "I'd never cheat."

Steve missed being able to throw Danny into a headlock right now so much. Stupid regular human healing.

"Since when?" he asked.

He wasn't allowed to get super powers. Danny would have a nervous breakdown.

"Since always."

"There's no way you're that good a poker player," Steve complained.

[hatesparadise]

"Beat your ass, didn't I?" Danny wasn't allowed to gamble in Vegas because he'd get into trouble with the same skills he passed onto Grace.

Also because reasons.

The guy with the thing and the Chinese circus performer? And Don Cheadle, maybe?

"That's why you have to be cheating."

Obviously, Danny.

THEY DIDN'T TALK ABOUT THAT.

"Oh, just because I beat you, I'm cheating."

"Seems like a pretty reasonable assumption."

STEVEN.

[hatesparadise]

"Oh, is that you asking for a rematch?" So he could beat him again.

"After I finish kicking your ass here, sure," Steve said.
