Danny 'Danno' Williams

Steve wanted to go camping for the holiday weekend. And therefore Steve was going camping for the holiday weekend. Danny very much was not. Because he was sane and also took one look at the 'camp shower' that Steve had so proudly shown off and noped right on out.

That didn't mean he wasn't going to support this ridiculous plan, though. Mostly because Steve was taking the plethora of kids they'd either collected (Steve) or just had the old fashioned way (Danny).

"You sure you've got enough snacks?" Danny asked, shoving more into the cooler because he knew Charlie was perpetually one snack away from a meltdown.

One overpriced portal after Steve got his phone call from Chin and they were both back on the big island, heading through traffic to get to the hotel associated with the uniform found on their victim. Which was the less active part of the investigation to let Steve and Danny sort of settle back into it after the whole... liver thing.

Perfectly fine. Nothing could go wrong.

"We get anything from the M.E. yet?" Danny asked, trying to see if traffic would move anytime soon. He'd been spoiled with Baltimore, honestly.

Well, last week had been pretty damn quiet on the island, but this week was back to whatever amounted to normal. And that somehow amounted to date night on the mainland. It made sense after they spent way too long last week watching episodes of Chopped and being horrified by some of the creations and needed to see some good food.

Even if Steve probably picked the place based solely on the name.

If only they remembered how trips off island usually ended in some sort of crime or car chase. If only...

Steve wasn't an otter anymore, but that didn't stop Danny from ordering him a specialty seafood pizza. Because it was how they expressed their love an affection for each other through constant bickering and teasing.

That and it actually kind of sounded good.

No one back in Jersey could know he did this. No one.

"Back with the pizzas, babe," Danny called once he was through the door.

Well, it was Father's Day. And that might have been a kind of normal occurrence for Danny, but Steve... it was a little more fraught. What with the McGarrett tendency to just jam down all the emotions and soldier through things.

But this year was ending up a little different with a hand drawn card from Charlie and a mug from Grace had Steve's name on them along with the usual gifts for Danny. Which was why Danny was letting the kids have fun on the beach and checking on Steve where he'd disappeared to get the grilling stuff together for way too long.

"Babe?"

Yesterday was Steve's first holiday with the extended Williams clan in New Jersey and the only reason he wasn't dead was probably because Charlie was also there to split the attention of everyone. At least that was Danny's assumption.

But they were back in Hawaii now and the kids back with Rachel. Well. Charlie was. Grace had immediately run off to spend the day with her friends at a mall somewhere.

"You good, babe? Need a hand?"

He was just being a jerk to poor, traumatized Steve.

Well, Friday night 'dates' were still a thing. Even though the summer had been busy with people turning into animals a little too much.

And it was fall themed. Even if it was only fall in that way as the AC was still cranked high to keep Danny from complaining. "Next time you can grill," Danny suggested as Steve returned with the pizza.

It was hot out. And it wasn't the Hawaii hot, it was the kind of hot that Danny had definitely willfully forgotten about back in New Jersey.

Which was why he was more than willing to let Steve talk him into traveling way too far to get ice cream on the mainland as a sort of date night. While trying desperately to not melt the entire time.

"I can't believe I'm saying that I miss the summer in Hawaii," he grumbled as they got to the shop.

Danny wasn't specifically a boat person, even with his current home being on an island. And his other home also being on an island. But he was at this yacht parade thing anyway for Steve.

And also to enjoy how miserably cold the guy was in the winter.

Look, date night was fun for a variety of reasons. Sometimes you just had to lean into it.

"You want to borrow my scarf?" Danny asked.
