The case in Baltimore hit a sort of dead end until Parrish's daughter was back in town, having had the amazing luck to have been gone before her father's escape and only just back to the news of it. Which allowed Danny and Steve to speak with her about things and dig into the story he'd given them about being framed.

Which seemed, despite all the odds, to be the case.

"It just seems like a lot of work to get away with murder," Danny said as they walked away from Lauren Parrish's home.

"It really does," Steve agreed. "And Laura is not a fan of her dad."

"No, she is not," Danny said with a little sigh. "Can you blame her?"

"Not really," Steve said. "Parrish has been a disappointing human."

"But, if someone else killed that guy, we gotta find out who it is." And possibly get caught up in some white collar crime bullshit. Again.

It was their lives! "So we should probably track down that Sullivan guy that his daughter said had hired Parrish. It was an online ad, right?" Steve asked.

"Yeah, I asked if Chin could help work his magic on it," Danny said, checking his phone. "Also see what the FBI has to say about the case. If they'll even share."

Oh yeah, they had a good track record there.

"Well, maybe this time they won't be huge assholes about everything," Steve said.

That sort of attitude might not be all that helpful, Steven.

"Ehhh, let's not hold our breath," Danny replied, keeping in step with Steve even with his stupid long legs.

"I can reach out to the FBI while Chin does his thing," Steve said in a tone most people used for dental appointments.

"You'd be very appreciated." Since Danny might make some choice comments about the federal government.

Steve smiled. "I'll be nice."

"Well, that'd be new," he teased dryly.

[grenadesandohana]

"I'll attempt to be nice," Steve amended.

[hatesparadise]

"That sounds more like it," Danny replied.

Steve grinned at him. "I'm who I am."

Danny snorted, bumping him with his shoulder. "We've got leads at least. And your buddy has a uniform on her Lauren's house in case her dad makes contact."

"And you left our numbers, too, right?" Steve asked.

[hatesparadise]

"Of course," Danny replied. "Hopefully it won't come down to that. She doesn't need that in her life."

"She doesn't," Steve agreed.

[hatesparadise]

"You owe me lunch while we wait for calls," Danny decided with nothing to back up that claim.

"No, I don't," Steve said, "but we can go get pit beef anyway."

"Pit beef?"

[grenadesandohana]

"Roast beef sandwich with enough horseradish to blow your head off," Steve said. "You'll love it."

"Sounds decent." Oh, those were fighting words in this city, Daniel.

"It's a good sandwich," Steve said.
