The case in Baltimore hit a sort of dead end until Parrish's daughter was back in town, having had the amazing luck to have been gone before her father's escape and only just back to the news of it. Which allowed Danny and Steve to speak with her about things and dig into the story he'd given them about being framed.

Which seemed, despite all the odds, to be the case.

"It just seems like a lot of work to get away with murder," Danny said as they walked away from Lauren Parrish's home.

"I get one every now and then when you become one," Steve teased.

"Hopefully it doesn't become a thing with the kids," Danny sighed.

"Maybe if they lived with us on the island," Steve said.

"Which they will not if the weird stuff keeps happening." Danny had limits on what he'd let happen to his kids.

"That's why they only visit twice a year," Steve said.

"And why you should clean up stuff because I think one of those dances are comin' up and things happen around them," Danny said. Mostly meaning any weapons.

"Copy that," Steve said, opening the truck and checking around them for potential hijacker.

Which Danny didn't comment on. This month. Give it time and he'd be rolling his eyes again.

"Well, we're makin' some headway in this case at least."

"I still can't stand the guy," Steve admitted.

[hatesparadise]

"A sentiment that I agree with," Danny replied. "But we're still gonna do our jobs."

"Of course," Steve said, "and then press charges for pulling a gun on you."

"And you," Danny added. "Two people in the car with him."

"The gun was in the back of your seat," Steve said. He remembered because it was in prominent rotation in his nightmares.

"Let me also be pissed for you here," Danny replied with a little sigh.

Steve reached and brushed his hand against Danny's. "Okay."

Danny took his hand and held on. Hopefully Steve didn't need it for a little while. "I hate that all that was brought back up for you, you know?"

"Yeah," Steve said with a frown. "Me too."

"Anyone asks, we're not on the clock anymore," Danny said, leaning over to kiss him.

[grenadesandohana]

Steve kissed him back. "Still on lunch break," he agreed.

[hatesparadise]

"Lunch break," Danny repeated with amusement in his tone. "Love you, babe. Got that?"

[grenadesandohana]

"Got it," Steve said. "I love you, too."

[hatesparadise]

"Damn right you do," Danny said with one more kiss like he was sealing the deal.
