MCA #0, Friday Afternoon

Well, it was that weekend once more. And this time around it was almost expected to get Grace showing up on the island. Charlie, however, was a bit more of a surprise with, you know, everything going on there.

It was still a clusterfuck, but the custody things were being hashed out with less resistance than it had been with Grace the first time around.

"I knew I shoulda child-proofed the kitchen," he grumbled. Because trying to keep up with a five year old again? Not fun.

"I'm moving stuff as fast as I can," Steve said, taking knives out of hidey holes to shuttle them into the gun safe.

"I'm just saying!" He was complaining, really. "I don't think Grace can keep him contained on the lanai for much longer before he pulls a runner."

Steve hustled to the sofa to do one last check of the sofa cushions. "Okay, I think we're clear."

"Why were they in the couch?" Danny asked, horrified.

[grenadesandohana]

"Because it has good sightlines to the door!" Steve replied like that was a normal answer.

"I sit there, Steven!"

"Nothing's gonna poke you in the ass," Steve promised.

[hatesparadise]

"Better not," Danny muttered, going to let a very unimpressed Grace and a very excited Charlie into the apartment. "Everything's good again."

"Howzit, kids," Steve said, grinning at them.

"Hi, Uncle Steve," Grace said dutifully giving him and her dad a hug each while Charlie flung himself at Danny's legs before doing the same to Steve.

Steve grinned at the affection. "Want to come with me to get pizza for dinner later?" he asked Grace.

He figured Raiden would cheer her right up.

Danny kiss her on the forehead for that. "Don't let him get pineapple on the pizza for me, will ya?"

"I want to go too!" Charlie proclaimed. Because if Grace went, clearly he had to go too.

"Of course you can come too," Steve said, grinning. "I just thought you wanted some Danno time all by yourself."

"Yeah, let's let Gracie help there and you and I can see if there's any games on Uncle Steve's ridiculous gaming device that's kid appropriate," Danny suggested, much to Grace's obvious relief.

"I think I've got meta for Minecraft?" Steve said.

"Minecraft!" Thank god it wasn't Roblox yet. Thank you, living slightly in the past.

"Oh, this'll be... this'll be great." He was going to sleep so hard after this weekend.

Wait until Charlie started narrating like he was a Youtube influencer! Just. The. Best.

Steve was ready to save them with pizza, though!

"Food's here!" Steve announced much, much later, coming through the door with Grace.

"Oh, thank god," Danny said in a tone that probably flew right over Charlie's head. But not Grace, who was smirking at him in a distressingly familiar way.

Steve grinned. "Miss us, Danno?"

"Immensely," Danny said with a sigh, pressing a kiss to Steve's cheek.

"Not a fan of the game?" he teased.

That earned him a pinch. "What monstrosity did you pick up this time?"

"It's actually really good," Grace chimed in, definitely looking at her phone in a way that screamed ulterior motives.

"We got two," Steve said with a grin. "Pepperoni--"

Charlie let out a cheer.

"--and fig."

"Eewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww."

"It's not ew, Charlie," Steve said, frowning lightly.

"Fig," Danny repeated dryly.

"And prosciutto," Steve said, nodding.

And so much arugula.

"That doesn't sound that bad," Danny replied suspiciously as Charlie continued to make gagging noises.

Thank you, Charlie.

"No, it looks really good," Steve said. "Just not dough, cheese, and moz."

"I'll allow as long as it's not pineapple, you heathen."

He was growing as a person!

"There's also arugula."

Steve was really pushing it tonight.

"Arugala." STEVE, WHY?

"Just try it," Steve said. "Grace signed off on it!"

"It's healthy," Grace insisted, giving her father a look that was very much him.

"I don't appreciate that being used against me," Danny grumbled.

"You'll love it," Steve said, grinning. "And then you can be mad about that."

"Debatable." You picked this man, Steve.

"Do I have to?" Charlie whined, doing his best to look pathetic on having to try something new.

"Yes," Danny said immediately, looking at Steve for back up.

"At least...three bites," Steve said, pulling that from his mom's fights with Mary about vegetables.

Danny nodded in approval even while Charlie kicked at the air since fun Uncle Steve was so cruel to him.

"It's pizza," Danny soothed. "You'll like it more than you think.

"And it smells really good," Steve said.

Grace sighed oh so loudly at that, only putting her phone down to grab plates.

"Three bites," Danny repeated, holding firm. "And then we can watch a movie."

"SOMETHING WITH CARS!"

Inside voices were for non 5-year-olds.

"Cars it is," Danny promised with a look that implied a nice, strong drink was in his future once they were in bed. "I'll be fun."

"No it won't," Grave muttered far too loudly from the kitchen.

Steve snickered. "Let's go dish up some food, okay?"

"Yeah, yeah," Danny agreed. "Thank you, Steve. And Grace."

Grace already had a slice of pepperoni pizza in her mouth at that.

"You're welcome, Danno," Steve said, dishing up a biiiig piece for Danny.

Which earned him an annoyed squint. "You get to deal with Charlie eating."

Cruel, Daniel. Cruel.

"Charlie and me have an understanding, right, buddy?"

Charlie looked decidedly dubious about that.

"Have a lot of experience with five year olds, babe?" Danny asked with a chuckle as Charlie tried to make a beeline for the fridge before getting gently snagged by the back of his shirt. "No more sugar today, okay?"

"But, Dannooo."

Steve had zero experience. Zeeeeeeeeeero.

"Not until you've had the pizza."

"Chocolate milk?" Charlie said instead. Because clearly it would solve all his problems.

Steve looked pained. Allll of that processed sugar, Danny.

Danny just shook his head. "You can have juice," he said, mouthing 'watered down' at Steve.

Steve nodded like he had any idea how to water down juice and went to get the drink.

It was going to be super watered down. Sorry, Charlie.

Welcome to their future until Charlie got a little older, Steve.

"Thanks, babe."

"Part of the gig," Steve said with a grin, handing Charlie the drink.

"One you got pulled along into," Danny muttered, putting down a plate with the fig pizza for Charlie to at the very least try.

Steve reached out to squeeze Danny's shoulder. "I've got no regrets, Daniel," he murmured. "Not one."

"Well, you might after trying to finagle a five year old into eating arugula," Danny said, leaning into him for a moment.

"It's like lettuce but more interesting," Steve argued.

[hatesparadise]

"Yeah, best of luck there," Danny said with a snort.

Charlie probably had a good amount of the Williams stubbornness.

Quite the shock to Rachel when it showed up, no doubt.

"He only needs three bites."
