It was hot out. And it wasn't the Hawaii hot, it was the kind of hot that Danny had definitely willfully forgotten about back in New Jersey.

Which was why he was more than willing to let Steve talk him into traveling way too far to get ice cream on the mainland as a sort of date night. While trying desperately to not melt the entire time.

"I can't believe I'm saying that I miss the summer in Hawaii," he grumbled as they got to the shop.

Danny just gave him A Look for that. "Because you lie to the therapists that make you talk to."

Maybe not the place for this conversation, but that never stopped them in the past.

"Well, most of them don't really want to know," Steve said with a shrug.

[hatesparadise]

"Then they're bad at their jobs," Danny grumbled. Because he could get weirdly protective too.

Steve smiled at him. "Maybe that too."

Danny returned the smile for a moment before noticing someone in a much nicer suit showing up on scene and talking to the people who had put them in cuffs. It was looking like the phone call actually might have worked here.

"Next time we find a dead body, I vote we leave it to them to handle."

But not this time. They clearly had a better handle on it than the locals.

"It's because he showed up in a tie, isn't it," Steve guessed.

"What is your anger against ties?" Danny's poor tie collection was slowly dwindling.

"They're tiny little nooses around your neck," Steve said.

[hatesparadise]

"They are not!" They kind of were.

[grenadesandohana]

"I've used one as a tourniquet," Steve pointed out.

[hatesparadise]

"You could use a belt as one, but you're not opposed to them," Danny replied.

[grenadesandohana]

"I don't string a belt around my neck," Steve said.

[hatesparadise]

"Yes, please avoid that," Danny replied. "And stop trying to throw out my ties."

"I keep the ones Grace gives you and the ones that aren't ugly."

There weren't many Steve didn't find ugly.

Which was why Danny was just giving him A Look.

"I will throw out a six pack of t-shirts of yours for every tie that goes missing."

"That seems unnecessary," Steve commented.

[hatesparadise]

"Harsh but necessary," Danny countered as a much more bombastic discussion played out just outside of hearing range with the locals.

"Think we're getting out of the cuffs?" Steve asked with a smirk.

[hatesparadise]

"Grudgingly, I think," Danny said as the first uniformed cop started over toward them before glancing back to confirm that they were okay.

"I don't care how grudgingly," Steve said cheerfully, shaking them in the direction of the cop who probably didn't deserve any of this.

Yeah, he looked so browbeaten over there.

"Babe, be nice. He's clearly new."

[grenadesandohana]

"If I have to be," Steve grumbled.

[hatesparadise]

"Sorry, sirs," he said, coming over to sheepishly uncuff them both.

Danny shot Steve a look over the cop's shoulder.

And because of that look Steve didn't say "You should be" but his face kind of did it for him.

[hatesparadise]

"Now, can we talk to whoever's in charge here?" Danny asked, rubbing his wrists and giving Steve a pleases look for managing to not traumatize anyone.
