MCA #0, Way Too Early Monday Morning

Well, that had certainly been a weekend. Grace being there had been great as per usual, while Doris had been... Doris.

Which was why Danny hasn't just fallen back asleep with a grumpy huff when Steve had gotten up for his usual level of exercise. Instead, he padded on out to make coffee, but found it already started by Steve. The good stuff again too.

That was what led Danny to taking his coffee to sit on the lanai to do something so cliché as to watch the sunrise as he waited for Steve to join him there.

70 percent was still an improvement for them!

"We aren't doing this out on the lanai either," Danny murmured. Because that one time had been a sort of 'thank god you're safe' thing.

Steve slid his fingers along Danny's cheekbones. "Yeah, I know."

"Hey," Danny said, sounding all sorts of fond and amused by him.

Steve smiled, looking a little sheepish at being caught out being sweet.

"Putz," he said, totally not helping with keeping that from being an affectionate nickname.

"Am not," Steve murmured, kissing him again. He was feeling more settled in his skin now, something he normally only achieved by a ridiculous amount of exercise and maybe a high-speed chase.

"Kinda are," Danny teased, running his fingers through Steve's hair as he smirked at him.

God, but he loved this man. "No idea why I put up with you," he said instead.

Danny pretended to consider it. "No one else would correct your terrible paperwork."

"You love doing my paperwork," Steve said with a smirk. "You to use your giant vocabulary to talk around things like 'extensive property damage.'"

"I keep you from getting dragged into out budget meetings with those words," Danny informed him.

"But I still have to go budget meetings," Steve said.

Where he sketched out battle plans to escape out windows and rappel off the governor's balcony.

"Where you ignore everything." He knew you, Steven.

"They can talk as much as they want, and I can listen as I much as I want," Steve said smugly.

Danny snorted and gave him a little shove. "I'll abandon you to it next time."

Steve's shove back turned into a bit of a bear hug. "You wouldn't."

Danny paused for a moment as he hugged Steve back. "I really wouldn't."

"Love you, Danno," Steve mumbled into Danny's shoulder.

[hatesparadise]

"Love you too, babe," Danny replied without really thinking about it.

And the fact that it was so casually said, like something Danny didn't even have to think about being true, hit Steve right in the gut. Affection had never been freely given, it had always felt transactional.

He hugged Danny a little tighter.

"You okay?" Danny asked, holding onto him as long as Steve needed.

[grenadesandohana]

"My head's a mess," he confessed. "Steak'll make it better."

Yeah, the plan was definitely going to change to cuddling until Steve felt more steady.

"I'll make reservations," he promised.

Steve was doing an amazing octopus impression right now, it was true. "Ooh, a fancy steak place," he said, trying to sound teasing.

"Well, I gotta somehow fix the fact that you fed me an MRE and tried to say they were all perfectly good," Danny replied, only moving so they could lay down in a comfortable position with Commander Koala Bear there.
