Another visit to the hospital and another donation for Charlie. Though this time around, Danny was having a slower go at bouncing right back into the swing of things.

Hence passing out for a nap on the nice, new couch at the McGarrett home rather than the place he still nominally kept. Look, you get over a certain decade and suddenly you're just tired and grumpy.

Or maybe that was just Danny's base state of being.

Steve was not a natural hoverer. Blame his parents and their implied--and sometimes verbal--"suck it up and deal" approach to issues, combined with Navy training.

Gunshots, he could handle. Hospital visits.

Marrow donation recovery? Not his forte. He did a pass by the sofa Danny had crashed out on, checking blanket placement and wondering if Danny wouldn't have gotten better sleep upstairs and away from the noise of Steve moving around and compulsively cleaning things.

"You're hovering," Danny grumbled, not moving more than he had to.

"I'm checking in," Steve said. "It's different."

"By stress cleaning?"

Because he knew stress cleaning.

"It's gotten dusty while we were gone," Steve protested. "I want everything shipshape."

And germ free.

"Uh huh," Danny said, closing his eyes again. "Rach asked for a favor, by the way."

"Pretty ballsy of her," Steve muttered. "What does she want?" he added more normally.

"She needs someone to watch Charlie while she finds a new divorce attorney." Did that help or hurt her case with Steve?

"Huh."

So Steve wasn't sure.

"Stan had enough?"

"I guess? But it let's me have time with Charlie, you know?"

And since Danny was Danny, he of course jumped at the chance for that.

Only then did he remember that he needed to talk to Steve.

Steve nodded. "When does she want to drop Charlie off here?" he asked.

Since Danny seemed pretty wiped out, currently.

"Tomorrow." He at least was giving some advanced warning. "I think he's as tired as me after the treatments, you know?"

Steve ran his fingers gently across Danny's forehead. "Yeah, you're pretty wiped out today."

"I'll be good once I nap."

He'd been 'napping' most of the day.

Steve gave him a slightly indulgent smile. "Of course you will. You still okay with Chin and Kono coming for dinner?"

"Yeah, of course," he said with a yawn. "She still bringing her boyfriend?"

Steve's nose wrinkled slightly. "Adam. Yeah."

The world's most boring Yakuza mobster.

"Whiskey?" It would be the only way they'd get through it sane.

[grenadesandohana]

"So many whiskeys," Steve agreed. "You can drink?"

Danny made a face at the reminder. "I really shouldn't so soon after."

But he wanted to.

Steve settled in next to him. "Maybe tomorrow instead."

[hatesparadise]

"Tomorrow," Danny agreed, shifting to make room for him. "After Charlie goes home."

"We'll probably both need it," Steve said, still not entirely prepared for the level of active a young boy could be.

Grace hadn't been nearly as energetic either, so Danny was also in for it.

"Maybe we show him the beach in the backyard?"

"Sand castles?" Steve said. "Swimming?"
