Once the party was over with and Steve couldn't hide nearly as efficiently as he'd been leading up to it, Danny was able to corner him with judgmental and worried looks. Both at once, really. Because he was just really good at them.

"How many extra weapons are hidden around the living room now?" he asked before Steve could slink off to do whatever wound up SEAL stuff he was itching to do.

"It'll be okay," Steve said. "In...in a few days."

"You're gonna need to sleep," Danny said, letting his hand drop for the moment. "Or nap, at least."

Steve nodded, then glanced out the window one more time. "I will."

Just not this second.

"Sit with me?" Danny said.

"One second," Steve said.

He had to go hide the knives he'd palmed.

Danny sighed, going to sit on the couch and maybe patting at it to make sure the knives weren't gonna stab him. Because there were gonna be knives in there.

Steve finally came over and settled--mostly--next to Danny on the sofa.

"He's dead," Danny said, reaching over to give Steve the option to take his hand or not.

"That's what we thought every other time, too," Steve replied, staring at the wall.

"This was a weird one," Danny granted him. "But he's dead. We're both safe here."

"I thought we were," Steve said.

Wo Fat had shook him up way more than he'd admit aloud.

Danny just took his hand at that. "I know, babe. I know."

Steve shook his head and gripped Danny's hand tightly. "I'll be okay."

"I'm not asking you to 'be okay' here, Steve," Danny replied.

"Why not?" Steve asked.

[hatesparadise]

"Because it doesn't work like that," Danny replied with a sigh. "And you'll just bottle it all up and I hate that."

"Oh," Steve said softly.

He just wanted to shake Steve sometimes until that broken through his skull.

"Just... know I'm here for you. You're not alone in this, okay?"

Steve nodded. "I know that."

Intellectually, at least.

"Uh huh." HE KNEW YOU, STEVE.

Steve slung his arm around Danny's shoulder and sighed.

"Will Hawaii help you relax?" Because he needed to know for the kids.

Steve nodded. "Definitely."

He knew that house was secure.

"Okay. We'll go home," Danny said simply. And look at him calling Steve's place 'home',

Steve smiled. He wasn't so stuck in his own head not to notice that. "When?" he asked.
