The return to Hawaii had happened smoothly with the holiday somehow lining up both there and in Fandom. But Danny wasn't gonna look a gift horse in the mouth since he got the whole holiday with Grace.

And somewhere between a case involving a presidential visit and a hitman running around their island, and meeting Steve's aunt Deb, things sort of settled into normal. Ish.

Normal-ish.

"Hey," Danny said, hunting Steve down once Mary had left him alone outside. He brought beer. Guy needed to decompress after the news he'd received this week.

Steve shoved against Danny's shoulder and then kinda just...stayed there.

"I'm a real boy."

"Eh, debatable," Danny said, not drawing attention to it or discouraging him from taking comfort. Which was basically the same thing.

"There are several people in that house behind us who would testify on my behalf," Steve countered.

"Yeah, will they're not here right now, now are they?" Because it was Danny&Steve time. And they'd learned to just... not. Just not.

Cath was in there kissing up to Aunt Deb, who'd lived in California long enough to give her slightly pitying looks.

"I don't want them out here anyway," Steve said. "It'd get loud."

Well, it worked on Doris.

"Yeah, it would," Danny agreed, looking out at the shore. He took a breath before letting it go with a deep sigh as he leaned into Steve.

Steve relaxed slightly into the warmth of Danny, drinking his beer and listening to the waves.

Fair. It should shock no one that Doris didn't seem to like Danny all that much. Possibly because she didn't have leverage on him.

"You should take some time," he suggested after a while of sitting there in companionable silence. "Take Mary and Deb to Maui. Do that tourist stuff that you all hate."

"I'm going to end up with a terrible polyester hula shirt, aren't I?"

"Bring back some souvenirs for Grace, will ya?" Danny said with a laugh, not at all contradicting that.

"She still into dolphins?" Steve checked.

[hatesparadise]

"Horses right now," Danny said with a look that implied he hadn't a clue where that came from. Probably Stan. "Though I think a plush dolphin for Joan might earn you sibling brownie points."

"Not if I make it too big to go back on an airplane," Steve said with a slightly evil smile.

[hatesparadise]

"She'll just make you ship it to the mainland," Danny said, giving his arm a shove.

[grenadesandohana]

"And that will cost more than the dolphin itself," Steve said, frowning. "Reasonably sized dolphin it is."

"There you go." See, making him into a real boy.

"Think I can leverage that into a reasonable hula shirt?"

No such thing, Steven.

[hatesparadise]

"Explain what that is," Danny replied dryly.

"Something Chin wears?"

[hatesparadise]

"...okay, fair." Chin had the best worst shirts.

[grenadesandohana]

"His are pretty good, right?" Steve agreed.

[hatesparadise]

"He's also the only one of us that can pull 'em off." Not even Steve could look good in one of them.

"Your Chin crush is showing again," Steve teased.

"He's a very handsome man," Danny replied without any shame. Even if he did grant Steve a conspiratorial grin.
