Well, yesterday had been a thing all around. And to say Danny wasn't exactly pleased to get brainwashed into attacked his already injured partner would be an understatement. He was upset enough that glancing at the bandages over his knuckles had him going into the kitchen to make chocolate chip and banana pancakes without any prompting.

Because healthy people expressed themselves via food until the could figure out the right words to say 'I'm sorry I tried to knock your head off because of an evil Rudolph'.

They didn't even make a card for it.

"No, not even then." He had opinions here.

"Why not then?" Steve asked, kind of desperate for a Danny rant.

"It's not food!" Who was Danny to refuse him that? "It's just goo with veggies added to it."

"Sometimes I add pineapple," Steve said, just chucking another log onto the fire of rantiness.

Danny didn't disappoint, tossing his hands up in the air and making a noise of disgust. "And don't try to tell me you actually like it. Because that'd be a lie."

"I love pineapple. It's part of my cultural tradition," Steve said oh-so-piously.

"You are so full of it," Danny said, pointing an accusatory finger in his direction.

"Are you disparaging the cultural mores of Hawai'i?" Steve asked. "I'll tell Chin and you'll have to sit through a Powerpoint."

"I'll just bribe him with coco puffs and he'll say he did," Danny countered.

"He would never!"

Danny just raised his eyebrows on a challenging fashion.

Steve made a face at him in return.

Danny looked smug and just gestured silently at him. Because they could and would have an entire argument via facial expressions.

As co-workers do!

And also people who have been married forever.

"Chin would never sell me out that way."

Totally normal!

"For coco puffs, he would." So fickle, your teammates.

"So you're saying he's coo-coo for coco puffs?"

Steven.

God help him, Danny laughed at that one. Even though it was terrible. Just terrible. "Yeah, yeah I am."

Steve's smile turned absolutely goofy. He loved making Danny laugh.

Well, Danny happened to like that goofy smile as well, so it evened out.

"When it happens, I hope you tell him that too."

"He'll give me that look," Steve complained.

"You'll deserve that look, babe." They were back to the fond use of 'babe' which was good, right?

It certainly made something in Steve's stomach unclench.

"Chin has mastered that look," Steve admitted, grinning.

Don't make him hug you, you putz.

"It's almost like he's dealt with McGarretts enough to know how to handle them."

"That can't be it," Steve said, grinning.

"Pretty sure it might be that," he replied dryly.
