Well, yesterday had been a thing all around. And to say Danny wasn't exactly pleased to get brainwashed into attacked his already injured partner would be an understatement. He was upset enough that glancing at the bandages over his knuckles had him going into the kitchen to make chocolate chip and banana pancakes without any prompting.

Because healthy people expressed themselves via food until the could figure out the right words to say 'I'm sorry I tried to knock your head off because of an evil Rudolph'.

They didn't even make a card for it.

Steve's normal three minute shower had taken twice as long today because of yesterday--but six minutes was still stupid for a shower so he wasn't hoping Danny hadn't noticed.

He came into the kitchen in a pair of soft sweatpants and a unzipped hoodie. "Morning, Danno. How's your hand?"

Because you were insane, Steven.

"Fine. Your ribs?" Was it perfectly reasonable for him to go get his hands all up ons Steve's sides? No. But that never stopped him when this jackass here was injured.

Right back where they'd been a week ago.

"It's fine," he insisted.

Danny shot him a look for that. He put the pancakes on a plate and put them on the table so he could turn his full, surly focus on Steve. "You got smacked by more than just me, Steven."

"Part of the job, Daniel," Steve said with a shrug. "I'll take a double-dose of painkillers and be fine."

"No, no. That is not part of the job," Danny informed him, ignoring rules about personal space to test Steve's ribs since he was gonna be stubborn about it.

Steve hissed. "Easy there, Danno."

"Just, fine, huh?" Danny countered.

Steve made a face. "I've been better," he admitted.

"Hoodie off. We're re-wrapping these." Because Danny was full of all the guilt of messing them up again. Which translated to surly care-taking.

Steve rolled his eyes. "It's not necessary, Danny."

He knew that wasn't actually going to stop anything.

Well, then. He would be expecting a much more annoyed variation of Grace's puppy dog eyes. So, so annoyed.

Steve sighed loudly for effect, then shrugged out of the hoodie.

Danny winced, moving to help him with that the moment discomfort registered on his face. "Oh, I don't need any help with my ribs," he muttered. "Liar."

There was some fairly spectacularly bruising under the bandages that weren't making Steve's case for him at all, either.

"We're both beat up."

"I wasn't injured before it happened," Danny replied with a very unhappy look. Because he was to blame for some of that.

"But then you punched some fruitcake," Steve said.

"And?" It was fruitcake! Okay, sure. It was pretty rock hard. But still.

"And then I used to to beat up a reindeer?" Steve added.

"Steven, I attacked you," Danny said, letting some of the abject horror over his actions filter into his expression and tone.

Steve reached out with his good hand to squeeze Danny's wrist. "You didn't mean it."

"I still did it, though." Mind control was some serious bullshit. You know that? "Christ--if you'd been someone else..."

"But I wasn't," Steve said quietly, "so don't borrow trouble, Danno."

Danny shot him a look, hand just over where he'd definitely elbowed him in the ribs. "This is bad enough. You get hurt enough as it is."

"I'll bounce back, Danny," Steve said. "Always do."
