Well, yesterday had been a thing all around. And to say Danny wasn't exactly pleased to get brainwashed into attacked his already injured partner would be an understatement. He was upset enough that glancing at the bandages over his knuckles had him going into the kitchen to make chocolate chip and banana pancakes without any prompting.

Because healthy people expressed themselves via food until the could figure out the right words to say 'I'm sorry I tried to knock your head off because of an evil Rudolph'.

They didn't even make a card for it.

Danny winced, moving to help him with that the moment discomfort registered on his face. "Oh, I don't need any help with my ribs," he muttered. "Liar."

There was some fairly spectacularly bruising under the bandages that weren't making Steve's case for him at all, either.

"We're both beat up."

"I wasn't injured before it happened," Danny replied with a very unhappy look. Because he was to blame for some of that.

"But then you punched some fruitcake," Steve said.

[hatesparadise]

"And?" It was fruitcake! Okay, sure. It was pretty rock hard. But still.

"And then I used to to beat up a reindeer?" Steve added.

"Steven, I attacked you," Danny said, letting some of the abject horror over his actions filter into his expression and tone.

Steve reached out with his good hand to squeeze Danny's wrist. "You didn't mean it."

"I still did it, though." Mind control was some serious bullshit. You know that? "Christ--if you'd been someone else..."

"But I wasn't," Steve said quietly, "so don't borrow trouble, Danno."

Danny shot him a look, hand just over where he'd definitely elbowed him in the ribs. "This is bad enough. You get hurt enough as it is."

"I'll bounce back, Danny," Steve said. "Always do."

"What? You think it's okay because of that? I'm gonna worry." It was just a simple fact.

Steve squeezed Danny's wrist again. "You always worry."

"Because you are important to me." That should be obvious, right? Right.

Had honestly not occurred to him, nope.

"Oh."

"And getting you hurt is--" The least pleasant thing he could possibly think of. Ever.

"Fairly regular?" Steve filled in for him.

[hatesparadise]

"Painful. You get that, right?" That it was normal to not be happy when someone you care for is hurt.

Steve was still struggling with it being applied to him, but he nodded to appease Danny. Seeing him in pain was a whole different thing, of course.

Oh sure. Of course it was.

Danny let out a sigh, eyes on the mottled bruises along Steve's sides. "Just. I'm gonna rewrap these. And if anything is hinky, I'm dragging you to the clinic."

"Sir, yes, sir," Steve muttered sarcastically.

Danny shot him a sharp look for that, eyes narrowing dangerously. "Eat your pancakes. I'll get the first aid kit. Again."

"Use some of it on your knuckles," Steve said, tucking into his pancakes.

"My knuckles have seen worse!" Back when he was a teenager, mind you. But still.
