Well, yesterday had been a thing all around. And to say Danny wasn't exactly pleased to get brainwashed into attacked his already injured partner would be an understatement. He was upset enough that glancing at the bandages over his knuckles had him going into the kitchen to make chocolate chip and banana pancakes without any prompting.

Because healthy people expressed themselves via food until the could figure out the right words to say 'I'm sorry I tried to knock your head off because of an evil Rudolph'.

They didn't even make a card for it.

"And getting you hurt is--" The least pleasant thing he could possibly think of. Ever.

"Fairly regular?" Steve filled in for him.

"Painful. You get that, right?" That it was normal to not be happy when someone you care for is hurt.

Steve was still struggling with it being applied to him, but he nodded to appease Danny. Seeing him in pain was a whole different thing, of course.

Danny let out a sigh, eyes on the mottled bruises along Steve's sides. "Just. I'm gonna rewrap these. And if anything is hinky, I'm dragging you to the clinic."

"Sir, yes, sir," Steve muttered sarcastically.

Danny shot him a sharp look for that, eyes narrowing dangerously. "Eat your pancakes. I'll get the first aid kit. Again."

"Use some of it on your knuckles," Steve said, tucking into his pancakes.

"My knuckles have seen worse!" Back when he was a teenager, mind you. But still.

"So have my ribs!"

That was not as reassuring as you think, Steve.

"Unfortunately, I know," Danny replied dryly as he returned.

He was pretty sure that if he said the Taliban had some stuff to learn about torture from North Korea, Danny would smack him in the head and then drag him to therapy, so he kept his mouth shut aside from the pancake eating.

"I'll be better by New Year's," Steve said optimistically.

Yeah, but there would be some good hugs in there too. But so much more soup.

"If you can relax and not run into something dangerous before then, maybe."

"I can relax!" Steve said.

"Ehhh." Yeah, Danny doubted that one immensely.

"We can go for a nice walk in the woods and I will do my best to avoid meth labs, getting kidnapped, or breaking my arm," Steve said.

"I call veto power on things if this happens," Danny informed him.

"If you insist," Steve said. "So we can go hiking when we go home?"

Steve's ass was going to be stapled to a beach chair, huh.

"Nope. You can go on a leisurely walk around the neighborhood, however." Somehow find out his 70 year old neighbor was a meth dealer.

"A quick walk around the neighborhood," he countered.

"Veto powers," Danny warned.

"Moderately paced walk around two neighborhoods," Steve said.

Danny rolled his eyes to the heavens, clearly begging for help dealing with Steve. "Fine. Moderate is based on my pace."

"But your legs are really short," Steve teased.
