While Danny's place wasn't as nice as Steve's because it couldn't be rented out for weddings and parties, it was still probably too nice for someone on a cop's budget. Why? Because reasons. That's why. You just learned to not question these things when watching a CBS procedural cop show.

Either way, it was another morning in the paradise that was Hawaii.

Sure, it was vacation time, but the host was of the 'food is how you show you care' school of thought, so breakfast was a thing that could be depended on.

Diego was hanging out outside with a cup of coffee. His paranoid ass had noticed the security around, but he thought that lined up with Danny and Steve being around explosions constantly? He wasn't thinking much of it.

Danny had noticed too, but had been hoping it was just Steve being Steve and hadn't confronted him about it just yet. But it would happen eventually.

This was him showing trust here.

"Hey," Danny said, nodding as he got out of his car with several boxes of treats from Liliha Bakery.

See, Annie, this is why he still went running in the morning even on vacation.

Annie sleepily made her way into the kitchen this morning, making a beeline for the coffee with a half-awake-but-cheerful, "Morning!"

She'd been lazy the last couple of days, but maybe this morning she'd actually rouse herself for a post-coffee run? (Probably a good idea, given how she'd been eating on this trip, oh em gee.)

"Morning," came the deeply unimpressed response from Grace. Who was starting to wonder if maybe she should have called her dad before getting dropped off here if this was going to keep happening.

Annie, to her credit, recovered fairly quickly from her mild surprise because that was absolutely not Danny or Diego, and gave Grace a much more-awake smile as she poured herself some coffee. "Oh, hey -- Grace, right? I'm Annie."

When the rest of the guests and that Steve fellow was invited over to share in the wonder of coco puffs and malasadas.

Steve, Verity, and Liam haha suck being modded into the truck arrived in the world's least fuel-efficient vehicle a giant penis metaphor Steve's truck.

Did Steve smell the coco puffs from his house? Totally possible.

"Morning," Danny grumbled. The treats were slightly messy after getting dropped, but still good.

That wasn't un-caffeinated Danny grumbling. This was a different form of grumbling (and yes, Steve knew the difference. #justfriends okay?).

"What's up?" he asked, opening the treat box and frowning at the slightly smushed contents. "Someone try to hold you up in a parking lot?"

Because that had happened to Steve on a super-romantic breakfast date in his truck with Cath and looking back maybe his game could've used some work?

Liam was also on team 'there's clearly more security around than usual', with a side of 'and one of their hosts seems to know more about it than the other' which is... why he hadn't brought it up just yet. Just waiting for the right time. Which wasn't now. Because breakfast.

"Morning," Liam echoed Steve as he and Verity followed him in, Verity immediately making a beeline for the coffee.

"So I was thinking that maybe today we could hike Diamond Head or head to one of the public beaches," Steve McGarrett, Hawaiian Tourism Board, said.

Liam laughed. “I wouldn’t say no to a hike,” he said. “But a day at the beach isn’t exactly a terrible option either.”

"Malasadas and coco puffs. Get 'em before they're gone," Danny said as a greeting. "Because they will be gone."

They were just that good.

"I don't doubt it," Liam said, grabbing some of each, passing half off to Verity. Sure, he could've left her to fend for herself amongst the ravening hordes of breakfast-seekers, but he was a dutiful husband like that, okay? "These look great."

Annie was fairly unconcerned with how or why the pastries in question had been smushed a little, quite content to grab a malasada and pose it on a little plate for a photo before sending it to Summer.

Sure, Summer was off having amazing sushi or whatever, but Annie had Hawaiian doughnuts.

(And Annie herself would longingly look at that photo in the coming months and remember how good this thing was, because good Lord.)

"Good morning." Annie wandered over with her own coffee to press a kiss to his cheek in greeting. (Appreciate her restraint in the public spaces of your home, Danny.) "Did you go out?"

Annie was pretty sure she slept harder in Hawaii than she did at home -- probably a combination of the warmth and the vacation of it all -- so she had not even attempted to issue a counterargument this morning, given that she'd been very unconscious until relatively recently.
