"Steven!" he called, looking around to see if he could find the man in question.

Steve hummed around the beer, buying time. "I didn't get one from the mayor. Diego told me he wouldn't date me."

"You're crushed, I can tell," Danny replied dryly.

"It's why I'm drinking," Steve said just as dryly.

[hatesparadise]

"That blow to your ego," Danny said, wraping his arms around himself to stay warm. "He probably meant it for someone else too."

"Who would try to date Diego?" Steve asked. "Think it's the mayor again?"

"Maybe," Danny replied, pretending to give it his full investagative thought process as he held out his hand for the beer again. "Weird either way."

Steve scooted his chair closer so he wouldn't have to reach so far and also because, as it turns out, sitting on the lanai in April was freaking cold.

"Very," Steve agreed, glaring a bit at his phone.

Oh yeah, huddling together was the right option here. Rather than going inside like sane people.

"Sorry for whatever got sent to you," Danny said with a sip.

"You didn't mean it," Steve said, wondering a bit who got his panicked texts about Joe and his mother.

Hopefully no one they knew!

"It'll all blow over. Thank god."

It would definitely not keep Steve up at night with How Does Everyone Know panic!

"I'll drink to that," he said, nodding.

"You're not getting this beer back." Though he wouldn't put it past Steve to have a cooler stashed away out here.

"That was my beer," Steve said, frowning.

[hatesparadise]

"It's a very good beer," Danny agreed without really agreeing.

Steve made a face at him as he stood up. "Well, I'm getting another one and them putting something dumb on TV."

Inside. With blankets. It was as close as Steve would come to admitting defeat out here.

Danny didn't want to do that needy 'is that an invite?' thing, so he nodded and stood as well to get the good blanket first. "C'mon, then."

It was definitely an invite but Steve was feeling a little raw about expressing it. He showed affection by bringing Danny a second beer, as he came back to the sofa, along with a big bowl of popcorn (light salt, no butter) to share.

And Danny returned that affection by graciously giving back The Good Blanket for him to use.

Delicate Hawaiian that he was.

"What bad show is this gonna be?"

"Dunno," Steve said. "Do you want Laughably Bad Action, Police Work Doesn't Go Like That, or Soothing British Dudes Who Fix Stuff?"

"Soothing British Dudes Who Fix Stuff sounds about my speed right now," Danny replied. "Also, that accent."

Well, that explained some of his relationship with Rachel, didn't it?

Steve laughed. "I discovered this on Netflix a few nights ago," he said, firing up Repair Shop Antiques Defense League. "Everyone is extremely competent and drama free."

"You remember that those late nights go both ways, right?" Steve was allowed to wake Danny up for company too. Even if he was grumpy about it.

"Yeah," Steve said, shifting closer, "but you'd just fallen asleep. Seemed cruel to wake you right back up."

Totally normal thing to know, right?

"How often you up without me?" Danny asked, mirroring that movement without a second thought.

[grenadesandohana]

"Not as often any more," Steve promised.
