Well. Steve's dad was here. And it wasn't weird at all.

And Danny wasn't at all both saddened and relieved to not have Matty or Grace or even Meka show up for him. Not at all. Don't be silly.

He was just gonna do the sane thing and sublimate his feelings by making breakfast for Steve and his guest until things went back to normal. Which would hopefully happen tomorrow. But, for now, there would be pancakes. With bananas and chocolate chips to make Steve smile like a goofball.

"Better than the alternative, " Danny agreed, getting a plate for John since Steve went and stole a pancake already.

"Banana chocolate chip?" Steve's favorite growing up. That much he remembered from the good times.

Steve was beaming at Danny. "The best kind."

Danny couldn't help but shoot Steve an amused, fond glance at that as he offered over Steve's plate next. "Your disgusting coconut syrup is in the fridge."

Yeah, don't mind how John was sort of openly staring at Steve at that. Doooooon't mind it at all.

Steve was aggressively not minding it as he headed for the fridge. "You mispronounced 'amazing' again, Daniel."

"I did nothing of the sort, Steven," Danny countered, working on his own pancakes now.

John just sighed and tried to think if he should be a little more surprised by this or not. Sure, Steve was a bit of a skirt-chaser, but there was also that not-quite-a-crush on Chin in high school.

"Steve..."

"Yeah?" Steve asked, popping his head back up out of the fridge.

LOOK, HE DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TO SAY HERE.

"Bring the coconut syrup over here when you're done with it," he said, hoping his very awkward acceptance was clear.

It wasn't, but such was the McGarrett clan.

If that was meant to be acceptance, it went right over Steve's emotional repressed head. "Sure thing."

Danny was also lost on that very low key attempt at acceptance. "Ugh, thank god Mary is normal."

"Mary has met your... team?" That pause was helping no one.

"Couple of times," Steve said, shoveling pancakes into his mouth. "Chin got to babysit Joanie."

"You left her with Chin," Danny pointed out, getting maple syrup like a normal human being. "Steve ended up doing pretty well with baby Joan. And toddler Joan when she ended up here that weekend."

GUYS. GUYS. NONE OF THIS WAS HELPING OUT HERE.

"Mary's been here too?"

"Sure," Steve said. "She was here the same weekend Gracie was, right?" he asked Danny.

Danny nodded in agreement, taking a seat with them. "This place seems to have those weird kind of weekends pretty regularly," he sighed.

Because it was testing him.

Steve smiled at him a little indulgently. "You do fine."

Guys. The fond looks in front of John going on right now was turning into A Thing.

John cleared his throat at that. "So. How, uh... how long has this been going on?"

He was doing his best to not sound judgmental here! His very best.

"We've been partners almost four years," Steve said, missing the point again.

"Steve, I know I'm from an older generation, but I'm not blind." Though he was very glad to have a room on the other side of the apartment now.

Steve blinked, then his jaw firmed. "Blind to what?"

"Steve," Danny, who would have very much liked to have a nice, friendly breakfast here, warned quietly.

Because he knew that jaw clench.

"Your relationship," John said. Because why say things in a way that wasn't avoiding the topic at hand? "I mean. It's called that, right?"
