The McGarrett Household And On - O'ahu, HI - Sunday Afternoon

So, you could make all the plans you wanted, but the island--no, not the one in the Pacific--would do whatever the hell it wanted. But in this once instance, it all worked out. Probably because there were other people involved.

Which didn't annoy Danny at all.

No, don't be silly. He was just glad to be home--don't anyone tell Steve that he called it that--and able to see his daughter again.

"I'm a big believer in reading aspirational dumb sh-- stuff at the beach," Annie told him with a nod. "When I'm nowhere near my own apartment and can't decide I don't have nearly enough vases of cut flowers lying around."

She actually had a few, still, from Valentine's Day, but the point stood.

"Speaking of flowers," Liam acknowledged. "Thanks. For the ones on Valentine's Day."

Sure, they'd spoken between then and today but like... flowers hadn't come up. For obvious reasons.

"You're welcome," Annie said with a bright, cheerful smile. "I had fun sending them to people! Valentine's Day is such a, like, insular holiday sometimes. Did you and Verity do anything fun?"

Liam bit back the response of ‘Besides each other?’ that had been on the tip of his tongue, but Annie probably didn’t need to be telepathic to know how close he’d been to saying as much

(Also, yes, they’d totally done someone other than each other, for the record, but... again with the having enough discretion to not go into the details of his sex life with people not already involved in said sex life.)

“We had a good time,” he said instead. “What about you and Diego? The firsts are pretty great.”

"We went out to dinner and stopped a robbery," Annie told him sunnily. And then they'd had sex in Diego's car. Like you do. "It was very on-brand for us."

Even if she hadn't been Starlight at the time, and that always felt a little weird.

At least they'd gotten sex out of the deal, unlike Danny and Steve, who'd also recently had a date interrupted by criminal activity not that Liam knew about that yet because that thread takes place later but shh.

"You're right," he agreed. "That does sound exactly what would happen to the two of you. I'm assuming on the mainland, since the only robberies on the island that I've heard about involved things like Tupperware lids."

"My universe's Baltimore," Annie agreed with a firm nod. "They don't have any heroes in residence right now and, like, subsequently have an unsurprising crime problem. A bunch of guys with guns came into the restaurant we were at and demanded everyone's wallets and watches."

Like in a Tek-Knight movie, or something. Diego was right, those guys were clearly amateurs.

"I didn't think people actually did that, outside of the movies," Liam said, echoing the narrative.
