So, you could make all the plans you wanted, but the island--no, not the one in the Pacific--would do whatever the hell it wanted. But in this once instance, it all worked out. Probably because there were other people involved.

Which didn't annoy Danny at all.

No, don't be silly. He was just glad to be home--don't anyone tell Steve that he called it that--and able to see his daughter again.

Steve led them in through the front gate of a beach front house that could be rented out for weddings that was completely affordable on a cop's salary, somehow.

"C'mon in, guys," Steve said. "Verity, you and Liam will be staying here, and Annie and Diego will be at Danny's place."

Did you know Danny had a place?

Annie had absolutely not expected separate residences, and given her absolute lack of poker face, it totally showed.

"Your house is beautiful, Steve," she said, trying to recover. It helped that that was true, because holy crap, Steve.

She hoped Danny's house was this nice. (Though at least it was likely to come with, like, meals included, so there was that.)

Diego was also surprised by the fact that Steve and Danny lived separately but his poker face was much better than Annie’s.

Liam exchanged a look with Verity that, yeah, was basically ‘Danny has a place?’

Much like Annie and Diego, they’d expected ‘Danny’s place’ and ‘Steve’s place’ to be the same, well. Place.

“I can see how easy it was for you to develop that early morning swimming habit of yours,” Liam grinned, making note of that beachfront view.

Yeah, of course Annie was spending time out on the beach. She hadn't brought three kinds of sunscreen and a truly enormous hat for nothing.

She even took off her floaty little cover-up thingie and went into the water for a little bit (despite generally being kind of wary of the ocean) before stretching out on a towel in her truly, fairly conservative two-piece swimsuit and pulling out a magazine.

Though not before checking her phone and sending Summer a photo of the ocean, because, like, it was beautiful but also because she was pretty sure she was going to be getting a lot of pictures and she was more than happy to return the favor.

Diego was wearing the same thing he had worn to the pool party. He also wasn’t wearing sunscreen because it just wasn’t something he thought about.

Danny took his usual seat out by the shore, texting Grace for a reminder of her schedule this week. Thank god she was aware of all the weirdness now.

And also, trying to figure out how to explain this to Chin and Kono without it sounding nuts. Which was proving difficult.

Liam was... probably not going to swim, no, but he was out here in shorts and a t-shirt with a book to read, so he had no complaints.

The tourist thing was entirely Annie’s fault and so was the shirt he was wearing. If wearing this in public wasn’t love he didn’t know what was.

Okay so first of all, this luau was, like, fated. Look at the name!

But also, Annie was having an absolute blast. She was wearing a cute dress, she'd been given a lei, she was totally going to learn to hula, and the food looked amazing.

She was going to end up moving to Hawaii, maybe. Did her version of Hawaii have a hero? She was going to have to look this up.

At least there was a veggie stir fry, and he wasn’t expected to subsist entirely on poi and salad?

Though yeah, he was going to slip away to a corner furthest from the buffet table a time or two throughout the night to just... quietly get his shit together. Don’t mind him.

Steve wasn't the head of the governor's super elite shiny task force for not having connections everywhere. A quick word with the head waiter and they came out with a plate full of ridiculously fresh local fruits and veggies, carved up to look like flowers because the Hilton was extra in every way. "Veggie sushi's on the way, too," Steve said with a quick smile.

"I'm saving you from Max," Danny said, taking a seat next to him before it could be grabbed by the man in question. "You don't know it, but you're very thankful."

Because Max's idea of good social skills sometimes involved talking about how to dissect an eyeball.

After the luau was over (and that 20 bucks had been entirely worth it for the Danny's face when he'd been pulled on-stage to show how to hulu. That Steve'd been pulled up too was beside the point. He'd rocked it, thanks to PE class back in high school), Steve returned to the table to put his shirt back on and make sure the bill had been taken care of.
