So, you could make all the plans you wanted, but the island--no, not the one in the Pacific--would do whatever the hell it wanted. But in this once instance, it all worked out. Probably because there were other people involved.

Which didn't annoy Danny at all.

No, don't be silly. He was just glad to be home--don't anyone tell Steve that he called it that--and able to see his daughter again.

"And when our apartment building burns down as a result, Verity and I are going to move in with you and Danny," Liam threatened. "I can't speak for Diego, he'll probably end up at Annie's."

"Just let me be there when you explain to Travis that the place burned down because your mice were practicing their fire juggling," Steve said. "I think the look on his face will be amazing."

"I think he might have his head explode from trying to picture why mice had firesticks to start with," Steve said, shaking his head oh-so-sadly. "He is not adjusting quickly."

"I think Ignis's birthday party the other weekend might've finally shaken a few things loose," Liam shared. "Hard to deny magic exists when you've got something like that right under your nose."

"Danny and I missed it," Steve said. "We went hiking and then there was a robber and Danny demanded dinner for having to deal with it."

"That's too bad," Liam said, though at least they'd missed it for a date night (not that he'd call it that to their faces) and not because they'd been, like, kidnapped or something. "It was warm and tropical, if indoors. You would've liked it. Could've swum circles around everyone else there." Despite it very much not being the kind of pool made for lap swimming, Liam was confident Steve would've found a way.

"It's an honor," Liam said solemnly. And even stuck out a hand for a handshake, which was not an honor most people got.

(Look, it was a cultural thing. You'd be twitchy about handshakes too if they had prelude-to-sex connotations where you were from.)

"Absolutely," Liam said shamelessly. "Also maybe angling for a few pointers," he added, well aware that Steve was right there. "After all, you and Chin still have far more experience than I do in wrangling those two."

"So who keeps Danny out of trouble?" Liam had to ask. Sure, Steve was great about getting him out of trouble... but that's because he was also usually the one to get him in it in the first place.

... There was only so much salad a guy could eat, come on.

“‘Things getting out of hand’ doesn’t happen as much back in Fandom, but when it does it tends to be an island-wide affair.” Because Fandom was teeny tiny compared to most inhabited islands, including this one.

“Well, he hasn’t gone so far as to stage a coup just yet,” Liam said dryly. “It does still say ‘Sheriff’ on my- well, okay, I don’t actually have a uniform,” he admitted.

He was a lot of things, and strangely picky about his clothing was one of them. He liked well-made expensive shit, okay?
