Well, that had definitely been a thing that had happened. With the plane and the drone and Danny would very gladly forget all about it other than to bully Steve into taking care of his goddamn leg until it was healed fully.

It was the last morning in Hawaii for their guests and possibly them. Fandom-willing.

Was it bad that Steve had a normal chair that he used to recover from being shot?

That was probably bad, huh.

But there he was, sitting in his chair and glaring a bit at the glass of water and pair of painkiller pills waiting for him.

Danny thumped bowl of pineapple and other fruit down next to his painkillers so he didn't get sick from taking them on an empty stomach. But he did it in a way that implied he wasn't happy.

It was a skill.

It was an amazing impression of a passive-aggressive mother, but Steve had grown up with a just plain aggressive mom, so it was cool.

"Thank you, Danno," he said, somehow managing to make that sound sarcastic.

"You're welcome, Steven." They deserved each other, honestly.

Steve managed to huffily swallow pills and then sulkily tuck into his pineapple because he was the world's worst patient.

The "get shot nine times, get the next one free" card from Kono, Lou, and Chin had not helped.

Danny hadn't found it funny either. But Steve's reaction had been. So, it evened out.

"The governor called."

Steve made a face. "Did you tell him I'd be cleared for work by the end of the week?"

Annie was spending her morning lounging out on the beach while she still could.

With her giant hat and sunglasses, it might have been easy to believe she was actually reading the magazine she had open, but actually, she was in real peril of taking a little sunshine-nap, here.

It had been a long few days, she had actually gotten up early to run this morning, and damn it, this was still vacation. Ostensibly. Even if there had been a drone and all. In any case, she felt that she (all of them) had earned a little time to just peacefully hang out in the sunshine, thank you.

"Still alive?" Danny called from the safety of the lanai.

"Uh huh," Annie called back, rousing herself a little bit. "The sun almost makes me want to move here, still."

Even after the whole car-ramming-plane incident.

"Yeah, it's nice." But the constant explosions, Annie. Just remember those constant explosions.

This vacation had been light on explosions! Gunfire, sad nameless victims, Colombian drug lords -- sure.

"Maybe my universe's version," she added, standing up to head back over to the lanai because she really was getting pretty sleepy out here. "Might be marginally less full of bad guys."

Marginally.

"Everyone thinks I'm the odd one for thinking this isn't a great place to live, you know." With the gunfire, the sad nameless victims, and the Colombian drug lords, yes.

You know, this was vaguely how Diego expected this vacation to go. He couldn't predict the drone, really, but he kind of had the feeling there would be a car chase and someone getting shot.

Now he was chilling on the lanai wearing Klaus' sunglasses and messing around on his phone. Seriously, how did his universe not invent them yet? So weird.

Annie wandered in from the beach, where she had definitely not fallen asleep even a little bit, for reals.

"So, are you, like, sold on the idea of vacations yet?" she asked, plunking down beside him with a happy sigh. "Maybe next time we can go somewhere where we don't get shot at."

"That doesn't sound very exciting." That was half the fun!

"Maybe we find exciting things to do that don't end up with anyone hurt," Annie suggested, leaning over to press a kiss to his cheek.

At least she'd stopped yelling since Thursday! That was something.

"I'm gonna need an example," he joked.

"I maintain that I think you'd like rollercoasters, and they're very exciting and vacation-y," Annie decided. "And Japan looks like it was fun and so far I haven't heard that anyone got shot, and there was karaoke and really fast trains and at least one Ferris wheel."

Yeah, okay, they had a beach back home, but it wasn’t the same. More rocky than sandy, really, and definitely not this inviting in February. So yup, here Liam was on the beach again, at least partially because otherwise he’d be hovering over Steve and that bullet wound and the hovering was Danny’s job.

"So like," Annie suggested from where she was just like, drinking up sun over in her chair, "surely there are versions of Hawaii where things are a lot more boring, right?"

Unless all Hawaiis were like this, and it was all covered up for tourism.

Honestly, the second was more likely, at least when it came to Hawaiis that Fandom had connections to.

“I wouldn’t know,” Liam shrugged. “Only other time I’ve been here was a work trip, and I was tracking down stolen weapons.”

Fewer explosions, but no shortage of people shooting at each other.

"So that's a check for the 'All Hawaiis are exciting' column. I need to do some research on who's heroing the islands in my universe," Annie decided. Because maybe it could be her! "I don't think they just send the west coast team out from California."

That seemed silly. Hawaii already had to import everything.

“Your reality’s level of technology’s about the same as this one, right?” Liam checked. “Because that seems... inefficient.”

Even including the fact that heroing on her world being what it was, they’d be sent via private charter flight... that was still hours, to get someone from California to the islands.

"It's like exactly the same, except for a bunch of minor differences." Starbucks did not hold up compared to Jitter Bean, damn it. "I mean, some of us can fly, though I don't know if anyone on Payback can. There's a gal in Portland who can, but I can't imagine they have Stormfront fly all the way out to the islands every time something happens."

She smiled over at Liam, adding, "So I'm gonna have to look into whether there's a vacancy." Because, like, she would obviously fit in great as a Hawaiian superhero. Obviously.
