It was hot out. And it wasn't the Hawaii hot, it was the kind of hot that Danny had definitely willfully forgotten about back in New Jersey.

Which was why he was more than willing to let Steve talk him into traveling way too far to get ice cream on the mainland as a sort of date night. While trying desperately to not melt the entire time.

"I can't believe I'm saying that I miss the summer in Hawaii," he grumbled as they got to the shop.

And caused Danny to sigh loudly as their IDs were taken to be called into dispatch.

"You know what I'll do." Which was be annoyed and bicker about it.

"Bitch constantly?" Steve asked sweetly.

Danny smacked him on the arm for that as the local cop turned back around with their IDs. "Sorry about that, I had to check."

"We've had it happen before," Steve said, nodding. "Last time it was the Coast Guard."

"You... found a body off duty?"

"Yes. Unfortunately," Danny said like he couldn't believe how bad their luck was.

"We got boatjacked that day," Steve added in a "what can you do" sort of tone.

"You got boatjacked?"

Danny sighed again. "It's a thing."

"It wasn't a big deal," Steve said.

"He's broken inside," Danny said to explain Steve to this cop.

"I'm not broken," Steve protested. "It just wasn't my first boatjacking."

Danny gestured at Steve like that only proved his point.

Steve sulked. Manfully.

"...Right," their new beat cop friend who was questioning his life in this very moment said as EMTs rather unnecessarily arrived to confirm the guy was dead.

"We can never come back here," Danny said, stepping back to make room for them.

"Why not?" Steve asked. "We didn't kill the guy."

"Because our return will traumatize the workers here," Danny replied.

[grenadesandohana]

"They're not going to remember us," Steve decided.

[hatesparadise]

"I assure you, they are," Danny said, gesturing at the body.

[grenadesandohana]

"Oh, him, they'll remember," Steve agreed.

"And us, the people who found him," Danny replied.
