It was hot out. And it wasn't the Hawaii hot, it was the kind of hot that Danny had definitely willfully forgotten about back in New Jersey.

Which was why he was more than willing to let Steve talk him into traveling way too far to get ice cream on the mainland as a sort of date night. While trying desperately to not melt the entire time.

"I can't believe I'm saying that I miss the summer in Hawaii," he grumbled as they got to the shop.

"Um," came a voice over the intercom into the room. It was followed by the sound of frantic footsteps and then the poor, poor employees rushing to open the door into the room.

"One normal date off island," Danny sighed, crouching down to check for a pulse. "One normal date."

"This isn't my fault," Steve said immediately.

Danny just shot him a look and sighed. "Call 911. This guy is... very much dead. And not just acting."

"Do you have camera footage of this room?" Steve added.

[hatesparadise]

"Um, yes," the now queasy looking teenager worked said.

"Babe," Danny said, nodding over at them.

Steve made a face. But Danny was so much better dealing with the pukers! "Yes?"

Danny made a face right back. "Fine, fine," he grumbled as though they'd had an entire debate on the matter, pushing himself up to talk to the kid. "A phone."

"On it," Steve said, reaching for his cell and grateful they were out of Baltimore's jurisdiction. Those guys hated them.

"Be nice to the locals," Danny warned, much to the confusion of the poor kid dealing with this. "Not you, him."

You know what you did, Steven.

"Just because they can't do their jobs doesn't mean I have to stand for incompetence," Steve said.

This would end in tears. Again.

"I like the ice cream place here!" Oh yeah, the reason to stay nice.

[grenadesandohana]

"Fiiiine," Steve grumbled, going off to liase with the local cops and be annoyed that they'd never heard of Five-O.

It was a learning experience for him!

"How about you take a seat," Danny suggested to the poor kid. "You're looking a little green."

[grenadesandohana]

"Well, there's a dead guy right there," the kid muttered, putting his head between his knees.

Steve ambled in. "They'll be here in ten."

"Okay, a chair outside," Danny suggested, shooting Steve a look.

"Yes, Daniel?" Steve asked as the kid bolted past him.

Danny just sighed in response. "We're getting beers after this, okay?"

"Possibly shots, too," Steve agreed.

[hatesparadise]

"Alcohol shots," Danny clarified as a very alarmed looking uniformed cop entered the room where two people were being super blasé about the dead body.

"Very smooth," Steve told him, nodding.

[hatesparadise]

Danny smacked him on the arm for that. "Yeah, he's got no pulse, but we didn't wanna move the body until the locals got here."

"Well, we're here," the first cop said, crouching down. "What do you think happened?"

"I think he died," Steve told them. Helpfully.

"I'd start by checking the cameras in here, honestly." Danny paused for a moment after saying that. "Maybe without the ill kids who work here."

[grenadesandohana]

Steve nodded. "Find out if he was an employee or a customer, too."

[hatesparadise]

The beat cop gave them both a look for that. "You guys feds or something?"

"Just here, trying to solve a mystery," Danny sighed.
